This weeks tune of the week has to be Salma Agha – “Come closer” (as Salman Agha) from 1984. Salma, who is from Karachi in Pakistan, was a singer and actor in the eighties and early nineties.
“Come closer” is an underground disco tune, not driven by it’s heavy drum, but rather its funky baseline and guitar. You will hear a bit of east and a bit of west in this tune. It is a vocal track with the verses sung in a language not known to me, and the refrains, which is sung in English, goes simply “Come closer”. I am going to let the tune speak for it self, because it is quite lovely (linked above)
Check out her discography at Discogs. The tune can be found on the Bappi Lahiri [Kasam Paida Karnewale Ki] Release.
