A couple of months ago DJ Dez (aka Andrés) released a new single on Funk Night Records, FNR-101B. “Save em” is on the a-side, but I like the more uptempo “Gotta get it” on the flip. For some reason I cannot get enough of the music out of Detroit, whether it is House or something else. Moodymann and Andrés both stand out though, similar styles, but different.

“Gotta get it” contains some cool soulful samples, what seems to be from the from the 60s or so. I can’t fully place it. It all goes over a simple hip hop beat. The break is a soulful vocal thing and it all repeats itself over 4 minutes. Another proper underground peace of music by A drummer from Detroit.

Limited release, but you can get a rather expensive copy at discogs following the links above. Another option is to register at Juno to get a notification email when it is available. I am not able to find a digital copy at the time of the writing of this post.
